Microsoft Live Messenger 2009 (v14)

Description

Due to changes in the new version of Live Messenger 2009 (v14), you may be unable to use the webcam and video conferencing features after SiteAdvisor is installed.

Solution

This issue is resolved in SiteAdvisor versions 2.9.256+ and 2.8.306+. McAfee recommends you upgrade to one of these versions.

To verify what version of SiteAdvisor you have installed:
  1. Open your web browser (Internet Explorer or FireFox).
  2. Click the drop-down arrow beside the SiteAdvisor icon in your web browser toolbar.
  3. Click About.

Use the first two digits to determine your version number. For example, if the full version number is 2.9.242, then you have version 2.9. If you have version 2.6 (in FireFox, the version may display as 26), upgrade to 2.8 or later.

To update SiteAdvisor:

Under normal cirucumstances, SiteAdvisor updates automatically. Once in each 24 hour period, SiteAdvisor connects to the McAfee servers and check for updates.

To manually update SiteAdvisor, click the arrow on the SiteAdvisor icon and select Get latest version from the Menu.

Workaround:
If you are temporarily unable to upgrade SiteAdvisor, McAfee recommends configuring SiteAdvisor to stop monitoring Live Messenger.

Windows XP/2000/Vista (32-bit):

  1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\McAfee\SiteAdvisor.
  2. Right-click the file sasets.ini and select Open With, then select Notepad.
  3. Locate the section titled [msnmsgr.exe].
  4. Change Enabled=1 to Enabled=0.
  5. Click File and select Save.
  6. Close sasets.ini and restart your computer for changes to take effect.

Windows Vista (64-bit):

  1. Click the Windows button and type Notepad into the search box.
  2. In the search results window, right-click Notepad and select Run as Administrator.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. Click File and select Open.
  5. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\McAfee\SiteAdvisor.
  6. Select the file sasets.ini then click Open.
  7. Locate the section titled [msnmsgr.exe].
  8. Change Enabled=1 to Enabled=0.
  9. Click File and select Save.
  10. Close sasets.ini and restart your computer for changes to take effect.
