How to uninstall SiteAdvisor

Summary

SiteAdvisor can be installed as a standalone application (by downloading it directly from SiteAdvisor.com) or as an integrated module within a McAfee security suite (such as McAfee Total Protection or Internet Security for Mac). This article assists you in uninstalling the standalone and Security Suite integrated versions.


Solution 1

Uninstalling SiteAdvisor as a standalone installation

Windows Computers:
  1. Close all web browsers.
  2. Open Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Programs and Features or Add/Remove Programs.
  4. Select McAfee SiteAdvisor from the programs list and click Uninstall or Remove.
Mac OSX:
  1. Open the folder /Application/SiteAdvisor.
  2. Unzip the uninstall .tgz.
  3. Run the uninstall .tgz.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstall.

Android Devices: 
NOTE: If McAfee appears as a Device Administrator under Settings/Security, remove it before proceeding.
  1. Select Settings, Application, and Manage Applications.
  2. Select SiteAdvisor.
  3. Select Remove or Uninstall.
 

Solution 2

Uninstalling SiteAdvisor when it is integrated with your Security suite:


Windows XP:
  1. Close all web browsers.
  2. Open Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Programs and Features or Add/Remove Programs.
  4. Select McAfee SiteAdvisor from the programs list and click Uninstall or Remove.
  5. When prompted, select only the checkbox next to SiteAdvisor.
  6. Click Remove and allow the wizard to complete.
  7. Restart your computer.
Mac OSX 10.5 (or later):
SiteAdvisor is an integrated part of the Internet Security product. To uninstall SiteAdvisor you must also uninstall Internet Security for Mac. For detailed instructions, please see TS101226.

Android devices:
SiteAdvisor is an integrated part of the McAfee Mobile Security suite. To uninstall SiteAdvisor you must uninstall the entire suite. For detailed instructions, please see TS101143.

 

Workaround

If you only want to remove SiteAdvisor temporarily, you can disable the browser add-on without uninstalling the program. Check your browser's settings for add-ons and browser helpers.
